iiNet are sliding into the shi**er.

Ever since they decided to use only Reach and Vocus for their international links they've been average to bad for international latency.

Now data to almost all European destinations goes through the US resulting in 400ms+ of lag, in reality the average European connection is 500ms+ which is completely unplayable.

If one wants to game without getting unplayable European hosts your only choice is Internode.

Alot of the latency issues can be easily solved if game developers for XBL were wiser and simply reduced the variety in their online playlists. Halo 3 is a good case in point. Too much variety with up to 16 playlists available at any one time. The chances of finding games quickly on good connection search are greatly reduced because players are spread throughout so many playlists.

The solution is very simple.

Put greater game type variety within a much smaller number of online playlists. By concentrating much higher numbers of players into fewer playlists consisting of more diverse match options you can vastly increase good connection search success and speed.

So yeah latency will "always" exist to people on the other side of the planet. But logical thinking on the part of developers can greatly reduce those poor international match ups by creating a better environment for the good connection search to operate in.

I suspect Reach is going down this route as the new veto system seems to support that. Halo 3 will be heading that way too after the launch of Reach with the current H3 playlists being "halved" by Bungie. Expect some playlist blending as a result.
