Getting host is more based on your upload speed. Hence why a single Japanese player in a Big Team Halo 3 match can pull host everytime. The average Japanese connection is well over 1mbps upload speed with many getting 5mbps or higher (up to 15mbps) which frankly dwarfs us.

If you love high speed low cost broadband you're best off moving to Japan / South Korea or Europe as they lead the world. We're 38th in the world for download and 62nd in the world for upload speeds according to speed test. We also pay a lot more for our crappy broadband than most of the higher speed countries too.

We may be a 1st world nation but we have Backwater Broadband... and it will stay that way until fibre replaces copper.

Like I said games like Halo 3 and Halo Reach have good connection filters which should find optimal connections in your region but in order to work effectively Bungie needs to compress / condense the playlists into a much smaller number creating a greater pool of players for their matchmaking engine to sort good connections from.

The problem we have in Australia is if you lay a 1km trench of cables you service approx 50-100 households. In somewhere like Japan, if you lay a 1km trench of cable, you are literally servicing 1000s of households.

Telstra are responsible for the existing cabling in this country and it is not economically viable for them to do it unless it is exclusively their product to sell (check out the new broadband initiative from the Labour government and Telstra) so that is why we keep the copper wires and get RIMs. This is one of the negatives of having had the Liberal government not break up Telstra before it was sold.

Well fortunately the NBR is in effect. Did you check the list of new suburbs getting the rollout? 2 lucky WA locations were on the list.... Mandurah and Victoria Park. Now I just need a Vic Park Halo 3 player on my friends list!!! hahaha :P

And as much as I hate Telstra the new estate we'll be building in is going to be fibre to the home services throughout from Telstra.

Enjoy your lack of support and customer service.

Do you know that at my work, we get Telstra devices working that Telstra support can't get working? Not only that, they are usually simple fixes that take 5 mins and we don't even charge for. To complete the trifecta, most customers have usually spent upwards of 2 hours on the phone with Telstra before being told their working device is faulty, and in 99% of cases they aren't.

Well unfortunately a decent number of the Nationwide NBR contracts are going to wind up being handled by Telstra anyway.

Awesome - and such is the benefit of fibre optic speeds.

Anyways.... Greg why are the first post rankings in order of download speed. I mean if this was a movie downloading group I'd understand but it isn't... this is a gaming group and upload speed is usually alot more important than download in relation to gaming.

Any speed over 1500kbps downstream is fine for online gaming. Upload speeds (which rarely seem to get over 1mbps in Australia) are the vital part of good online gaming connections.

Make a post with how it should look and I will copy & paste. :D
