big thanks for the good turn up

and another win for monks team, mind you heners was on your heels.
We only got through half the rounds, two teams dropped out... and the lan turned into a btb romp.

next time
I hope to be on a beter prepared team as two members of my last minute team did a no show ( these things happen ) but luckly i had Kyle and little declan to help out....yes your were being killed by an 8 year old.

anyways I think the triangle setup was good.....???people thoughts

also the people that made way for the big team battle learnt the importance of updating your games before lans....we had trouble finding a game that we could all play due to what we thought was caused by not having the right updates.

anyways look foward to the ACL LAN and looking for a serious team for the upcomming event if ya interested give us a shout. ;)

The triangle set up worked well. I think there needs to be a balancing of teams (or sportsmanship) because there were team that were way overpowered and others underpowered.

As this was my first lan event, i cant belive how nice everyone was. I really liked the triangular setup, made it easier to trash talk Heners team ;). But overall that was a good fun lan and i cant wait until the ACL one.

Went well in my eyes, was set up perfect when i got there. With you guys getting there nice and early to set it all up.

Ran smoothly with the pizza's and free range, most people enjoyed there stay. Maybe if we could have played out the next round (Vs. Monks team) for the title - but doesnt really matter. You guys can have this one ;)

Other than that, its time to prepare the ACL LAN to get a raving attendance - well hopefully. & Hope to see you all there :P

I know i'm going to be practising like crazy with others flying inter-state for the event!

The ACL LAN is on 28th August, right? If I get my Ps by then i'll surely come and help set up as I plan to attend - even if it's just to watch and help out (not in a team. :p)

OT: The setup was good, it was nice that all the cabling was supplied by you, as that helps a lot (last lan my cable wasn't long enough so had to borrow one. Luckily someone had a spare).

Looking forward to future lans.

It's on the 21st David, and that would be a great help :D

The event was well run as usual. Sportsmanship was VERY questionable at some different stages of the competition though.

For example:

Half the team to my left putting their controllers down pissed off that their opponents had scored two bombs and had deliberately decided not to arm the third as they felt the need to get some "1337" practice spawn killing. A reasonably intelligent person would question the benefit of this for "skills" or "entertainment" and a downright unintelligent person would realise it is the geek equivalent of bulling. Don't try to excuse that behavior as any considerate person would not have engaged in it in the first instance. So yeah both Bec and I were pretty disgusted with that particular teams lack of sportsmanship demonstrated for everyone else to see. In the context of our sporting nation it's downright Un-Australian and more akin to something I'd expect to see from arrogant US teens who grew up on a diet of American Trash TV, GTA and xtreme sports. If someone from that team could explain how spawn killing your opponents rather than arming the final bomb is fun I'd love to know. Perhaps an understanding of your mental malfunction may allow me to pity you at the very least.

Another sad example of zero sportsmanship was "another" team who also engaged in spawn killing and tea bagging of the players they spawn killed. My 8yr old son, who we had only brought along to watch as a special one off treat initially but ended up filling in for a missing player, looked over at us looking very upset. When Bec went over to see what was wrong she saw his dead spartan on screen body being tea bagged by a player who is so much older and better in skill that you would assume such an act would be beneath that person. This spawn killing had been going on for some time according to him. If spawn killing and then tea bagging the weakest team which had two kids playing for missing members is how you get your kicks I need say no more about your character to the people reading this. Highly disappointing to see older people setting such a pathetic example to the next generation.

Thats just a couple of the things that ticked me off about some of the other teams behavior. I could go on but I doubt anything I write here would make 1 grain of difference. Bec and I are not planning on attending anymore future Hall based LANs and will also specifically not be attending any house based LAN open to those people. We love playing fun matches with mates but have zero time for selfish, juvenile, unsporting behavior.

I have deliberately not named anyone involved aside from my son. I hope those who participated in the activities described above can take my criticism on the chin because there are no excuses for poor sportsmanship at a social/semi-competition LAN.

Don't let the performance from a certain few people stop you from coming to future lans. I was T-Bagging, just for the jokes mainly, Dont have any beef with anyone or anything like that. But you have to remember that Halo3 is a fairly competetive game and people like myself do like to try and play for the Stats and Medals. So from that perspective you can sort of understand why people where killing alot. I dont find a game fun if we just win in 2 mintues by just capping the flag or bomb.

That's a shame, would you reconsider if we played other games with co-op?

I enjoyed speaking to Bec and your son was easily the most entertaining player in the venue.

If I hadn't gone to the Supernova Pop Culture Expo and movies with friends I would have played on your team but there wasn't time after the movies to go to all three of our houses and arrange three Xbox360s and we didn't have three displays that could be easily transported (I didn't want to take my TV again because it's too large).

just want to thank everyone for the honest feedback, this is why we have feedback so we can improve on our lans.

I spoke to the captain of the team regarding that bomb match and it was agreed that it wasnt on. esspecially to a team of casual gamers that made a team to help out with numbers.

and as for teabaging there is no official rule...but we do play nice, were at a lan face to face and its an unspoken rule...especially to an 8 year old that wont speak up....i can totally understand why the parents are upset I know i would be (i have 3 children) and waxlan would like to apologise to Damo and Bec and hope you will reconsider comming to future lans.

This is an open forum so everyone should speak on any events during the lan no matter what, it helps to improve future lans.

I have also given it some thought and there needs to be a divide between serious lans and social lans. IMO next social lan will have teams drawn out from a hat...and serious lans teams must sign up complete and be prepared to have their asses handed to them.....ppls thoughts.

Again apologies to anyone who didnt enjoy the lan, but speak up so we can improve
