Why don't we do a poll, to see if it's a popular idea?

Make your own teams, if I'm put in random teams no offence I wouldn't enjoy the hype leading up to the event nor enjoy myself. And properly wouldn't attend. Make your own teams and stick with them to make team-work. Or get on more to play with 'your' team.

why wouldnt you enjoy playing with other waxlan members on your team?

yeah mixing the teams for a change is a great idea, get ppl to socialise more and get to know others out of their little niche group...the whole reason behind waxlan.

Thats the whole point going to an event, preparing a team to see who is the best on LAN. Improve, and enjoy the time with your mates. Put blood and sweat into it.

Maybe because i dont no too many WaxLAN members 'very' well.

I dont belive every lan needs to be mega competative...and to me close games with closely matched teams are more fun IMO.

To me it isnt a victory when i beat a bunch of ppl with lower skill.

when ppl are allways on the bottom team they tend not to come back...how do you suggest evenning out the teams to make it fun for everyone and so lower skill players can learn from beter players?

but its good feedback we want to hear from both sides of the fence so please post guys, we want to hear from all

just thought more about what you said henners....some good points I can see how a proper team would want to play togther hence they are a team.......how about the winning team for the last couple of matches of halo becomes a team captan and teams are created from skill?? or something like that

give some of the lower skill players the opurtunity to be on a winning team too?

what do you guys think?

I personally don't mind either way. I got no problem with better teams beating my team and I don't mind getting split onto Free For All decided "fair skill distribution" teams.

Whenever you're keeping score for a end of night prize there is always going to be a first and last placed team no matter how the teams are formed. Hence I don't see the big deal about either option.

Now to play devil's advocate...

One observation about choosing captains from top teams at previous LAN:

You'd be hoping they turned up for starters. Far as I know nobody from Monks team is coming to the next LAN.

Observations about choosing captains from a mini FFA comp prior to team games:

Sometimes the best FFA players aren't always the best team players. To say a team is fair is a subjective call at best. You choose teams after a FFA comp then you wind up with everyone needing headsets (and shouting over speaker noise), option of people re-setting up their xbox/TV next to their team area to prevent screen view cheating, or people sitting on other peoples Xbox/tv setup and the risk of damage / blame.

Preselecting teams is another option. But when I tried to preselect teams on fair skill distribution it was based on my personal knowledge of how they played and their apparent skill level over the time I'd known them. This is less likely to fail and allows players to setup equipment on team tables "HOWEVER" where even that fell down was when one or two players were last minute cancellations which threw the entire thing out the window and one team ends up dominating the entire night regardless.

I think at the end of the day you are better off viewing it as which system requires less event based work? Team entry is the least work and less disruptive at the event itself though not desirable for fairness. Fair will always be subjective in the context of even slight competition.

Yeah as long as you do the drawing before people setup their equipment ;) so they can be sitting near their teams. :)
