Well before his retirement Shane Kim of MS had proclaimed Australian XBL Gold Subscribers would have movie content before the end of 2009. His statement has been proven true with MS now advertising the coming of Movies on Demand to Australian XBL in November.

While not the same kind of great service the US has with Netflix it is a great step forward that Australians will now have the ability to rent and view HD movies on XBL at costs starting from $4 per movie.

Really happy about this one. Feel like Australia is beginning to emerge from the digital distribution "Dark Ages" we've been in.

Well done to MS for finally getting the service pushed through despite the Australian Govt's bureaucratic red tape.

No it's actually being done through Microsoft's Zune service. This has eventuated quicker (in terms of rights accumulation) than the other option they were going for.
