Anyone been to speedtest.net lately and viewed where Australia sits for global broadband speeds?

Download speeds: Australia = 42nd with a national average of 5.11mbps

Upload speeds: Australia = 71st at a national average of 0.62mbps

You know if this were the sporting arena the nation would be incredibly upset about those kind of crappy results. We think we are this developed country with a keen affinity for technology and embracing the new... well the truth is sadly we are not...

Broadband will drive much of the technological advancement in systems and communications around the world and we're going to remain a laughing stock / tech backwater for at least another 6yrs as the National Broadband rollout meanders it's way around our continent. It's downright embarrassing but everyone needs to remember we have Telstra to thank for this situation.

We also have Telstra to thank for the cheap and nasty RIM wiring they have screwed so many new developments over with. Their shortsightedness with RIM wiring will be one of the major cost factors in the National Broadband Rollout... because the Feds techs are essentially having to fix all the dodgey wiring Telstra put into new developments and new business areas which has restricted people from accessing higher speeds or ADSL2 services. Nobody with current RIM wiring can access high speed ADSL2 services let alone the 100mbps speeds the broadband rollout is promising.

To read more about Telstra's RIM wiring:

All it did was save Telstra a bit of money but meanwhile screwed over everyone whose house was built in a new development area during the last decade or so.

Boycott Telstra - fullstop.

So I can blame theme for my lack of gaming skills.....

I also avoid the mentioned service provider, If u can call them that.

They are clearly the most expensive with their mobile plan pricing esp with the Iphone ( My partner just got one ). Also there C\S is not upto the standard it should be...

Yeah, a few customers at work have been complaining about Telstra using RIM in their neighbourhoods and disrupting decent connection speeds.

Where my new house is the highest plan I could get up was 8mbps downstream plans on ADSL1. I was informed by iinet, westnet and amnet that due to RIM wiring no ADSL2 services would work.

Unfortunately due to the RIM wiring my ADSL1 384kbps/8mbps plan was very inconsistent. And it was the same no matter the provider. The RIM wiring caused the service to drop out frequently and in order to get a consistent service the ISP's inevitably had to reduce my download speed from the 4.5mbps I was originally getting to a more stable 3 - 3.5mbps download speed.

RIM wiring Sucks as much as the company that installed it! I know alot of people own shares in Telstra - but I wouldn't be sad to see them go belly up. They've done nothing but hamper Australian broadband services and make us the laughing stock of the developed world.

I've been botcotting Telstra for 3 years now, ever since I asked them to disconnect my mobile. For every other company i was with, it was within the month. With Telstra, they said it was disconnected twice, and a year later still got a bill from them.

I also found out from my Telstra training from Harvey Norman that if you have ever been with Telstra in the past, current, or even future; if you disconnect from them every service you have, they will still keep all your details (even if asked for them to be deleted) and in their system you will be labelled an "inactive" customer.

I have the strong belief that if you request a company to delete your details from their system, that they should do it. I've even asked the dodgy indian call centres to delete my details because my number is silent, and they do it; whereas a mega corporation such a Telstra won't.

Ridiculous!
