HERE IT IS

LOST PLANET 2 Review

Okay let me start off by saying what the game is. Lost planet 2 is
the seqeul to lost planet 1 (Obviousley). It is 10 years after
the events of the original and the planet has started changing from
the snowy wasteland from the first game to lush environments ranging
from thick rainforrests to city slums. The grand mega company from the
first game has been reduced to a small military enterprize. The game
ends up branching into several different stories following the paths of
different groups of space pirates.

Now for gameplay.

The gameplay has had some major changes applied since our last encounter.
First of all the crosshair stays in the middle of the screen instead of
moving like you were playing a shooter on the wii. Now the Thermal Energy (T-ENG)
doesnt keep dropping making it easier to conserve it for a later occasion.
One of these reasons is for powering the Vital Suits (VS) aswell as being used to
recharge your health. The main problem i have is the grappling hook how if you
aim it at a platform right you will end up hanging from the bottom of the floor.
Also I saw that the grappling hook would let you hang off walls but when i did this
I wasnt able to shoot properly while grappled or it would just drop me from the wall.
But on the lighter side the grappling hook will let you hang off the enemys and shoot
them at point blank range.

Lets Squash Some Bugs.

Now to tell you about the enemies. Lost Planet 2's enemy variety is masssive, apart
from having your humans and small akrid a lot of the akrid from lost planet 1 have
reurned including the rollers and flyers but that is not what in new. Now there are
enemies that will leapfrog over each other to attack you and some that look more like
lizards than giant bugs. But as the thing is with all things new you will have to
think of new and elaborate ways to defeat them. Speaking of which there is one level
in the 3rd campaign where you are in a arabic style village where there are human
pirates trying to shoot you down with sniper rifles (And beware these guys are accurate.)
but once you have killed all the humans two (said loosley) Frilled necked lizard Akrid
come down and start smashing everything and you will want to move slowly in this part as
they will hunt you down if they hear you.

KILL BIG

Boss battles are brutal, not just for you but for the boss aswell. During boss battles
the key way to defeat the bosses is to take out their limbs taking off large chunks of
health or if your aim is right dropping them down for some close range action.
But this is really the only good parts of them. The boss battles feel kind of dull
compared to ones of games like shadow of the collosus. Although each battle employs
different tactics the general way to kill the is usually the same AIM AT THE GLOWING
PARTS TO KILL IT. I didn't see this as a bad problem more just a used one that seemed
kind of old.

I'm Not Going Out There On My Own.

Multiplayer is where this game is at it's strengths. There are two main uses for the
multiplayer in LP2 one is the campaign. although this game can be played single player
it is a lot more fun playing it with up to four friends. This is where the game becomes
interesting as it allows more teamwork during the game but i must say if you are going
to do this play it on hard or else the game will run through like a bad arcade game with
super weapons as your main guns. But one thing worthwile is the Good Job (GJ) medals
which are awarded for teamwork used during the game like all striking a pose at the end
of a mission. Now for the Competitive Multiplayer, now this mode is very strog in this
game because of the use of VS' and level design. Some of the maps have been placed
in different environments from a small arena to entire space stations. One good thing
about these maps is the amount of pickups in these areas. Just talking about the space
station I counted about 7 Vital Suits and about 15 attachments Lying around.

Overall the game is good not great. Its use of mechs and weapon designs was a good addition
to the series but overall a few good things cant mask the bad.

Graphics 8/10

Gameplay 6/10

Multiplayer 6/10

Replayability 6/10

Overall 7/10

Yeah nice review VALK1R3.

I got frustrated with 1 but 2 seems to have fixed my fustrations so I may look at it when it comes down a bit.

Oh and here's the Metacritic - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/lostplanet2?q=lost%20planet%202

Or
69 out of 100 (based on 53 Critic reviews)
6 out of 10 (based on 27 public votes)

The ABC reviewers specifically mentioned that in Lost Planet 2 you need to be standing still in order to throw grenades? Is that true? If it is that would definitely contribute to less free flowing combat vs the original game where you could throw grenades on the run.

From most of the reviews I read it seemed the general complaint was that the gameplay had been made more clunky than the previous version. Which is a fair comment if true - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I heard as well that the zip line clipper thingy jiggy do dah (technical term) has an issue in that if you clip anything as your zipping it auto disengages which would be a pain.

well you will be able to have a try of it at the next lan and see for yourself with me playing though i havent really noticed the grappling hook problem and the one i mentioned only really applied to if you are hanging on to the wall. Oh the grenade thing it wasnt really a problem for me and it seems to make up for it with some really overbuffed weapons and battle armor
