Are we actually living in a first world country??

I was contacted by Telstra provisioning yesterday. Someone will be at my house to connect my phone line between 8am and 12pm tomorrow.

Then iinet are rushing through my internet connection.

On the 19th of this month it will be 10 months.

What a coincidence, a tech is coming out to check my line on the 20th.

Still waiting for the tech...

I called iinet because I had not heard from Telstra's technician. They followed it up with Telstra and called me back.

I will not have a phone line today - nice of Telstra to inform me (or iinet).

So with the ongoing issues with setting up this sub-exchange, Telstra never considered doing one minor thing, hooking the sub-exchange into the existing infrastructure of telephone lines.

That's right, the sub-exchange is connected to... nothing.

The tech went out to the exchange and discovered this first thing this morning, Telstra have now cancelled any pending connections and have listed the new connection date as 'unknown' with an estimate that they will have an estimated connection date after Friday of this week.

So not only does Telstra suck, they are grossly incompetent.

My new phone connection date is Monday... hah! We'll see if it happens...

So a funny thing happened. I contacted A Current Affair regarding how rediculous it was for me to be waiting 10 months for an internet connection to my house.

2 days later, I have a phone line. Who here has ever heard of Telstra working on a Saturday? I think ACA called up and Telstra jumped into action just so they couldn't do an expose on Telstra's 'Customer Service'
