Reviews are coming in for MW2.

First one I read has pretty much exclaimed that MW2 is not better than MW1. Campaign is too short at around 6 - 6.5 hrs on 2nd hardest setting. Thats about ODST's campaign duration (and remember many liked to bag ODST for being an "expansion" rather than a true game). Also the review commented on lacklustre / run of the mill mission design for the most part with only one mission breaking the mould.

Well thats disappointing to read.

But on the up side the game looks gorgeous apparently - with amazing detail in the surrounds.

Then another disappointment:

No Party Chat on 360.

Quote:
In their infinite, we-know-what's-better-for-you wisdom, the developer has disallowed Party Chat in the vast majority of the game modes in adversarial multiplayer. The rationale: To prevent cheaters from leveling up faster. Let's ignore the fact that if people really want to cheat this way, they can just call each other on the phone.

Hmmm multiplayer game where you can't remain in Xbox party chat?

Then a comment on another review said that MW2 has superior AI... but a player posted directly beneath his review with this:

Quote:
Not so sure that the AI is that superior, especially at one point where I was crouched at the top of a staircase and no less than 6 enemies came up the stairs one at a time allowing me to shoot them in the face. Surely if the AI was that clever the 6th guy would have thought 'hmmm...... 5 of my mates have just walked up these stairs and died, maybe I shouldn't go up there....'

'Oh well, what's the worst that could happen?'

BANG!

Haha good point... I always wonder exactly how noobie some of the reviewers are. Whether there is something tangible they can point to in the game that allows them to claim the AI is superior to other game AI's already around? Cushy job = writing reviews.

Moved from wrong topic - thanks for pointing that out Darth Ghost!

What level are you playing at Nema??

I've done the 1st couple on Veteran, and damn it seems harder than the 1st.

I think i'm gonna drop a level so I can enjoy the story without it feeling like a slog.

Kotaku's review is up.

They had a bunch of nice things to say about MW2. But very similar with their criticisms about single player to the MTV review I posted the quote from before.

Btw despite their review Kotaku is still promoting a complete boycott of MW2 on all platforms until they bring back the dedicated servers for the PC version.

Yeah but will a boycott work??

It'll still sell a million by the weekend anyway.

It's cutting your nose off to spite your face, I'm very happy and encouraged when people will stick to their principles though.

Unlike those guys that slammed L4D2 got a free trip to Valve and instantly dropped their issues. I'm willing to bet that by the weekend half of the Kotaku staff will be playing it.

EDIT - But because we can't prove it, i'm not willing to back that bet up with money. :P

Edit 2 - here's the link to the metacritic sitehttp://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/modernwarfare2?tag=topslot;title;1

I prefer reading the lower rated reviews as they seem more unbiased but 96 from 31 reviews is pretty solid. But obviously gaming is opinion based so please make your own rather than rely than that of others.

Looks like it's done well overall though and I look forward to partaking in it at some stage. Shame the MW2 single player campaign is short - as I really have next to no interest in COD multiplayer. So as a consequence I'm far more likely to rent this game on a Saturday and play through the campaign on Hardened or Veteran and return it Sunday night.

Fortunately I'll get a top up dose of MP when the Halo:Reach Beta comes out in 2010.

I hope Telstra isn't roping you and your surrounding neighbourhood into one of their BS "Velocity" services?

To me Velocity sounds borderline illegal. Telstra installs fibre to all new homes in a development but then locks out all other service providers. You can ONLY use Telstra Velocity plans in those affected developments. And yes the price structure of Velocity plans is pure rip off...

The sooner Telstra gets forced into its functional separation by the Federal govt the better I say. Their anti-competitive behaviour has proven they don't deserve to have rights to all installation of lines and also be a ISP. Can't be trusted.

Really hope you're not in a Velocity area.
